Oz Observations #4

In order to offset the boring last few posts from Australia, here are some wild and true things that occur in Australia:

1. All schoolchildren wear uniforms

2. Pop goes flat really fast. Like between the time you crack a bottle/can and the time you finish it, the soda will be flat. (Something to do with less or no preservatives I'm told)

3. Mountain Dew tastes like Sprite and "Lemonade" here is Sprite flavor.

4. For water at restaurants, they put an old glass bottle (winebottle) full of water on the table with glasses for everyone. It's much classier than just filling our cups.

5. There are premixed cans of whiskey/coke, vodka/sprite, etc. to buy at bars or the liquor store.

6. Baby strollers are called prams and lots of places have signs about their use (like trains, buses and stores).

7. Diapers are called nappies.

8. All public garbage cans (or rubbish bins) have cigarette disposal units on top of them.

9. All wine comes in screw-top bottles (no corks!).
