Dec 26 - Lots of Walking and Job Searching

The plan was to wake up early and hit the job trail hard today. Well, 9 am rolled around and my alarm went off and I woke up to pouring rain and me being very much still sleepy. So I went back to sleep til 11. Then I got up and walked around the downtown to find places to apply to. I didn't see any that I liked or that were overtly needing employees or that I was qualified for (lots of bars and coffee shops that require special training courses). So I walked back to the hostel, enjoying a kebab on the way back. Sat around a bit, then put on shorts and a t-shirt because it's really hot out and my pants and long-sleeved dress shirt were not conducive to the heat. Then I walked over to Market City with the plan to buy a binder to put resumes in for my job search. I got there and browsed around and it was super busy with frenzied boxing day mall patrons. I bought a nice striped red/white polo to wear when looking for work (less casual than a t-shirt but still cool enough to wear on a hot Sydney day). It looks a bit like a Where's Waldo shirt, but it fits good and was only $15, so I tossed it on and walked back to the hostel. I was steps away from my room when I remembered I still need the binder. Awwwww. So I put my other shirt in the room and walked to Coles supermarket and bought a little clipboard/binder thing and walked back to the hostel (That makes 3 return trips down essentially the same path today thus far). I printed out a bunch of resumes in three different formats: one for cooking jobs, one for retail/clothing store jobs, and one for more professional jobs. Then I put them in my new binder and walked over to the area where the new apartment is. I looked around a bunch of streets there at a bunch of different businesses. The problem is that almost all of them are closed for the holidays and many don't reopen until well into the new year. So I marked down a few that sounded promising and walked back to the hostel. Now feeling hungry, Brennan and I walked to Coles and picked up pasta/sauce/canned corn and peas mixture for dinner. Walked back to the hostel (That's 5 times for me today, if you were counting) and cooked it all up, along with 2 burgers we had left in the fridge. Full to the brim and spent the rest of the night surfing the internet (I even applied for an office job doing inventory management). I took a break to go out in the pouring rain and get money for tomorrow (Brennan had gotten money out when we went to Coles) . We need to pay the rest of our apartment deposit ($400) and the first two weeks' rent ($900). Got a text from the landlady tonight saying the old tenants would be out at 11 AM tomorrow, so that's when we could move in. Brennan will be working though, so I'll have to go over and clear up all the details and bring over our backpacks to our new home. Pretty excited to have our own place to call home after all this time in hostels. Now there won't ever be a situation where there aren't any clean pots available in the kitchen or there isn't any space in the fridge for our food. The only thing I need to do now is get a job (easier said than done) and we'll both be set.
