Dec 4 - Beach and Movies
Enjoyed a nice sleep-in today, had a long hot shower (with pressure even!) then got on the trunks, hat, sunglasses and sunblock. Beach time! Walked down to the beach, set up towels and soaked up some sun. Then did some wave jumping, body-surfing and finally used the skimball again (used it once on Whitsunday Island and then lugged it around thousands of kilometers before I used it again today). Watched the kiteboarders for awhile; there are lots of them here, which makes sense with the constant wind, and they rip across the water and ramp off waves. Looks fun but also like it's a lot of work. Napped on the beach and worked on the tan for awhile then packed up and got some Subway for lunch. Yum yum yum. Headed back to the hostel for another shower (get off all the saltwater residue) and to watch movies. The movie collection here is an odd assortment of mainly pirated discs (lots of covers that were clearly printed off and don't reflect the actual covers) so we watched Sin City until it froze, then Step Brothers until it froze, then back to TV. Deal or No Deal is different here; it looks more like a cheesy old 70s game show, only goes up to $200,000 and the people holding the cases get to guess the amount they have and if they're right, they get $500. Went for a stroll to the beach to try and get some photos of the sunset over the Indian Ocean, but it was too cloudy, so some artsy beach shots sufficed. Back at the hostel there was a Kevin Costner marathon on tv (they love their actor marathons, last night was Leslie Nielson, now tonight Kevin Costner) so I got to enjoy Field of Dreams and The Untouchables (Brennan went to bed early and missed the cinematic adventures). Tomorrow we go back to central Perth and try to think of how to burn a day back there. After that it's off to Sydney and employment and responsibilities. Yikes, that sounds dreadful.
