Dec 7 - Manly and Wine Tasting
Got up and had some cereal with strawberry milk this morning (delicious!) and Sarah showed up (having moved to our hostel now). Once finished eating, we rolled out and walked to the harbour through the botanical gardens and past the Opera House, etc. Hopped on the ferry to Manly, which is a little suburb north of Sydney proper and has a popular surfing beach. The ferry took about 30 mins, then it was only about a 5 minute walk to the beach. We tossed our stuff down and chucked frisbee for awhile, then played catch with the skimball (getting good use now) then had a nap/tan session. Then we moved down to the flagged swim area and dove under/over waves and body surfed them for a good hour or so, maybe longer. Then everyone napped on the beach and dried off. Brennan and I grabbed a slice of pizza each for lunch then returned to the beach for more nap time. Once we were all good and tanned we ventured into the shops and found a Coles supermarket. For dinner we picked up a BBQ chicken, pasta salad, greek salad, buns and cookies. Took all the stuff over to a picnic table just up from the beach and munched out. Once we tore through the delicious (and healthy) meal, we walked to a wine bar that was having a free tasting from 6-7 (as they do every first Tuesday of each month). We had a few samples of red wines, then grabbed a table and ordered a bottle of white. Chatted and enjoyed a glass each, then ended up getting 2 more bottles to share and slowly sipped away until just before 11 PM. At this point, we walked to the ferry terminal and waited a few minutes until it arrived, then rode it back to Sydney. Walked back to the hostel, with a stop for McDonald's 50 cent ice cream cones then called it a night. Tomorrow the plan is to go to Bondi beach along with Sarah, Enrico and Dan (who arrived in Sydney late today). So 5/6 of the super 6 travel group will be back together tomorrow on sunny Bondi. And we also need to look for jobs at some point...
